I work with scientific societies, publishers, and journals, offering guidance on all aspects of peer review and science publishing.
Services offered include:
– help with developing effective editorial policies, particularly for new journals
– advice on journal workflow and time management
– analysis of citations and related data to aid with decision making
– guidance on marketing and overall journal strategy
If you need assistance with these and other aspects of journal management please contact me to discuss.
My career has included a PhD and postdoctoral work as an evolutionary biologist, followed by seven years as managing editor for the journals Molecular Ecology and Molecular Ecology Resources. I oversaw numerous major changes at these journals, including the switch to ScholarOne Manuscripts, the introduction of a stringent data archiving mandate, and a complete shift in the goals and scope of ME Resources.
I have particular expertise with the implementation of data archiving mandates, and integrating journals with data archiving services like Dryad.
I have also conducted research into major issues in peer review, such as reviewer workloads, the relative efficacy of data archiving policies, and the reproducibility of common statistical analyses. Please see my Publications page for a list of my papers. I was recently awarded the inaugural Award for Achievement or Innovation by the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors.
